In November of 2002 we moved from Alaska to the Hampton Roads area Of Virginia. At the last second the Air Force denied a request for an extension so we were forced to move earlier then we wanted to. This did not give me enough time to get all the work done to the C800 that would have been needed in order to have it shipped. Needless to say I had to leave it behind.
The truck was powered by a Caterpillar 1150 series 573 cubic inch V8
diesel which was a special order option from Dodge starting in 1973. It has a five
speed manual transmission going to a two speed Eaton rear axle. While Dodge used metal fender
tags on it's cars
to show which options were delivered with the vehicle they did not do that with the big
rigs. Instead this truck has a sticker on the inside of one of the fenders to show which
options came with it from the factory. Check pic 8 to see
what's left of the sticker from this truck.
The truck has a secondary serial number on her that was issued by a company called
Bock Products. From what I've been able to tell Bock Products took the Dodge chassis
and cut the frame down to a 122 inch wheelbase and put the gear on the back so she could
tow mobile
homes. I believe she was brought up to Alaska to move mobile homes in support of the
building of the Alaska pipeline. When I found this truck it had been sitting in the back
of a shipping company's lot in Anchorage, Alaska, for about 6 years. With the help of four
new 6
volt batteries she fired up and I was able to drive her home after I plugged a couple
of holes in the air tanks for the brakes.
